Female club captain Molly Bean has had an “unbelievable” weekend at the SEAA Combined Events Championships held in Horspath, Oxford. She was crowned the U17 Champion and was involved in what must be one of the closest events in the history of Heptathlon, with the top two girls separated by just 6 points after the 7 events!
Going into the final event, the 800m, Molly trailed Maddison Hutton (Kingston AC & Poly Harriers) by just 20 points which equated to approximately 2 seconds. Running in stifling 32 degree heat, Molly led from the front, taking the bell after 75 seconds and pressing ahead to cross the line in a huge personal best time of 2:33.25s. Then the anxious, but extremely short wait for Maddison, who stopped the clock at 2:35.29s, a huge 7 second personal best too! However it wasn’t quite quick enough and Molly claimed an unexpected but very welcome Championships with a NEW personal best and club record points total of 4131.
In addition to her 800m time Molly also achieved personal bests in the shot putt (9.03m), 200m (27.95s) and javelin (29.89m & NEW club record)
Well done Molly.
