Club News

Congratulations to all those that competed in the parkrun, which formed round 1 of the Inter Club competition at Gorleston seafront on Good Friday. It offered a promising start to the season with victories for Zak Barber (U13 boy), Brooke Oram (u15 girl) and Tyler Bilyard (U17 boy). As well as top 3 finishes and good runs from many other GYDAC athletes.

In the team competitions, it was also an excellent start to the defence of the titles won last year by the U11 and U13 girls teams, who are both in first place after the parkrun. Also, in the combined team event GYDAC finished the parkrun with an unofficial total of 756 points in first place with Waveney Valley in second with 636 and Beccles & Bungay Harriers in third with 568. Lets maintain our excellent start to the season and ensure we provide a good turn out at the next event, which will be the track & field at the Wellesley later this summer.

As you will all be aware the EAL is the prime focus of GYDAC and we need as many athletes, officials and helpers as possible to make themselves available for these meetings. Last year we got 3 of our 7 teams to the Trophy final at the end of the season. Watch out for the team sheets in the tea hut in the coming weeks. Remember, we need to fill all the events to maximise our points, which may mean athletes competing in an event you wouldn’t normally do. Points awarded to athletes at these meetings will also be totaled at the end of the season to find the GYDAC athlete of the year in each age group.

Quadkids is an excellent competition for our younger less experienced athletes, particularly the U11s but is also open to U13s. Many of our older more experienced athletes started in Quadkids. Athletes take part in 4 events including a sprint, run, jump and throw, scoring points in each. There are 5 events this year across the summer with the first being at Norwich on the 22 April. Entry for Quad kids needs to be made by you, not the club. Further information can be found on the Athletics Norfolk website, you can also find a link on the GYDAC fixtures page.

For those athletes (U13, 15 & 17 only) that would like further competition in addition to competing in the EAL, GYDAC also competes in the EYAL as part of a composite team with other clubs from Norfolk. Team managers for the EYAL teams are Craig Bean, Andrew Willeard & Tracey Mayne. If you have any queries regarding this competition or would like to enter you name, the team managers are available on most training nights.
