What a Weekend!

It's been a huge weekend of Athletics across many disciplines. Here's the update we teased earlier.

First up has to be Sophie McKinna. Sophie won the shot put at the British Athletics Championships held in Birmingham on Saturday. Sophie threw 17.97m, just 3cm short of the Olympic qualifying distance, to win the event by nearly 90cm from closet rival Amelia Strickler. In winning the event Sophie secured her place at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar in September. Well done Sophie.

Next up it's Allyna Mukuya. Allyna ran a Gorleston Parkrun 5K personal best of 20:10 on Saturday which moved her up into 4th place on the all time list for JW11-14. Well done Allyna.

Finally, several Team GYDAC athletes enjoyed a bank holiday in Lowestoft this weekend, taking part in the Lowestoft Scores Race. The junior boys’ podium saw a “1,2,3” for the club, with Daniel Harrison winning the race, followed by teammates Aaron Roberts and then Ben Thompson.

There were first places in the girls races too with Allyna Mukuya, fresh off of her Parkrun personal best, winning the JG9-12race. Se was joined by on the podium by Faye Nottage who finished third. Lilymae Coote (6th) and Lyla Cole (9th) also did extremely well.

Brooke Oram won the JG13-15 age category. Well done Brooke.

And lastly for now and continuing his wonderful season, Tyler Bilyard came in 2nd in the adult race, finishing in an impressive time of 28:24, against a field of experienced road runners. Well done Tyler.
